On this not-so-sunny Tuesday we thought we’d zoom in on one of our current projects to give you a better idea of the ins-and-outs of some of the things we do here at Blueprint! We try to do this every month, and for November we’ve chosen to spotlight our Filmmaking course in collaboration with Genesis Housing Association in Woodberry Down.
The Genesis Housing Association have an ongoing regeneration and development programme in North London, aiding the growth of the Woodberry Down Area. As a part of this wider project, we are working alongside the association to bring a free 9-week course of filmmaking workshops to unemployed young residents. For more information about the courses, head to our project website.
We’re now in the third week of the course and it’s going really well. We like to have a hands-on approach here at Blueprint, so we had our students jump right in getting to know the basics of camera, lighting and sound in our first session. The groups have since begun developing scripts ready for our development stage of the course.
Over the course of the nine weeks, the candidates will learn basic sound, lighting and camera techniques, as well as script development, storyboarding and finally, editing. Each group will make their own short film that they can keep for their portfolios and earn an Arts Award! Right before Christmas, all groups will get together with their friends, family and members of the local community when we screen the films. It will also be a great opportunity for the students to get feedback on their work and discuss what they’ve learnt! The screenings are always our favourite part of any workshop series we do -and we’ve done quite a few- it’s always lovely to see people watch something they’ve made on the big screen!
