Every Friday over on our social channels, we pick out a new short film from across the web that made a particular impact on us. From animations, to narrative or documentary shorts; it's always good to check out other creators' work. #AmazingFilms is our way of showcasing some of the best short films the internet has to offer. With another month down (nearly half way through 2020...) we've compiled all of our picks from May into one handy list! Take a scroll, get inspired, and soak in some stunning creative content.
Our first pick of May was Shern Sharma's stunning documentary short, Holy Dog. Following a young Lakoda Sioux cowboy/bronco rider in his journey for spiritual renewal following a traumatic accident. It's not only incredibly captivating, but beautifully shot too. We love the editing here - which plays a vital role in making 14 minutes feel constantly engaging and flowing.
We fell in love with Sean Wang's perfectly patient portrait of what it means to call a place home. Wang approaches the stories with a real warmth and quietness, by giving space to moments of calm. This is carried over into the cinematography, which looks stunning but effective in creating a reflective atmosphere. A great watch if you need a breather from the world.
Its been a while since we shared a travel-based short was part of our monthly picks. So this stunning piece from Janssen Powers was a welcome discovery. Made up of footage shot on a trek through the Rocky Mountains, it's the perfect escape during a time of isolation for many.
It wouldn't feel right if we didn't get trippy in the monthly list. That's why we loved Paul Trillo's mind-bending short. Made up from drone shots, twisted with breathtaking visual effects; the result is a totally unique and original look at the world.
Our final pick of May was Ben Ono's gritty look at a surfer battling the fickle weather of Ireland's northern territories. The stunning attention to aesthetic details is what really makes this one stand out. We love the look, but also the sound of this one. With immersive soundscapes that really do throw you into the water alongside Al Mennie. Definitely not one to miss!So that's all from May folks!
