If you follow us on Twitter or Facebook, you'll be no stranger to our weekly #AmazingFilms - a pick of short films (one a week) that have stood out to us as particularly effective in their message, doing unique things with the medium or just worth sharing for whatever reason. Whether you're in video production yourself or just in search of great new content to absorb - it's always beneficial to see what's being created! With another month down, we're now half way through the year - so we've compiled all of May's best picks here for you, just in case you missed any!
'The Talking Tree' - Stefan Hunt
First up from June is Stefan Hunt's supremely strange comedic short, 'The Talking Tree' - which is about, you guessed it, a man who meets a talking tree. Theres not much else to say about this one - you've kinda just got to give it a watch; rest assured it's a brilliantly surreal, comedic short which proves that sometimes less is definitely more...
'CRvM' - Justin Carlson + Alex Nicholson
Something a little different for our second pick of the month, in the form of Justin Carlson + Alex Nicholson's beautiful artist profile for Christian Rex van Mitten. Diving into the artist's creative process, it combines beautiful imagery with some subtle yet really effective visual effects, culminating in a unique profile that offers a different look at a great artist.
'Hell of a Week' - Damien Bastelica
Of course it wouldn't be an #AmazingFilm list without a little animation, and this week's choice is Damien Bastelica's imaginative and deliciously mad short, 'Hell of a Week'. Following an employee through a week from hell, it's Brilliantly animated, with a simple yet imaginative story that makes for a crazy few minutes. We're huge fans of the art style here and the twist ending, which certainly helps to stand out from the crowd.
'The Future Ain't the Same As It Used To Be' - Chris Labrooy
We're closing out June with what is easily the most surreal pick of the bunch. Theres not really any easy way to describe this one, but we'll try sum it up - It's an animated short following a group of automobile/inflatable duck hybrids as they journey through photorealistic environments. It is as strange as it sounds, and it's just brilliant, mainly for it's impressive animation and infectious imagination. We're big fans of crazy concepts coming to life and this one ticks that box!
