#AMAZING FILM JANUARY SHORT FILMS

Welcome to 2020! If you follow us over on any of our social media channels, you’ll know that every Friday we pick out short films from across the web that has made a particular impression on us. From animations, to narrative and documentary shorts; it’s always good to check out other creator’s work. And this year is off to a brilliant start. Here are our picks of the best short films from January…

GLITTER'S WILD WOMEN - RONEY

Our first pick of the new year, we found this one to be the perfect mix of humour, intrigue and fantasy. We love the look of this one, and it helps that it's brilliantly performed by the two lead actresses. 'Glitter's Wild Women' feels totally unique and completely absorbing. A strange start to the year but a fantastic little gem nonetheless!

SEW TORN - FREDDY MACDONALD

We love the way the story unravels itself meticulously in Freddy Macdonald's strange little short, 'Sew Torn'. It's always satisfying to see jigsaw piece storytelling that works effectively and this is definitely a prime example. A simple set-up, but a great payoff. That's all we'll say...

SWEATER - ZILAI FENG

Our next pick is the perfect example of a little going a long way. From the tiny thought of a man putting on a sweater, Feng has crafted an imaginative, abstract and satisfying animated short that is both parts random and entertaining. we love the scrappy, sketched style of this one, and of course the always relatable scenario of getting lost in your sweater...

THE TURNING POINT - STEVE CUTTS

Another quirky little animation makes our next spot on the list - but now with a slightly more urgent cause. Using animation & some brilliant compositing, 'The Turning Point' tackles the climate crisis in an interesting way by imagining a world where the sides are swapped. Great animation, a relevant message and an interesting perspective - what more is there to love?

HOTEL PARAÍSO - ZACK CAMPBELL

Our final pick of January was a gorgeously woven tapestry of stories from the Philippines. 'Hotel Paraíso' offers more than just stunning visuals - with a great attention to details across all narratives, Campbell has crafted a complete look into the culture of a city. A must-watch if you love travel as well as beautiful aesthetics.
