We're now well and truly getting settled into the start of a new year (as well as a new DECADE). As video continues to prove itself as one of the most effective forms of marketing, we wanted to round up some of the best adverts from the previous 12 months! 2019 saw companies continue to push the boundaries when it comes to unique and refreshing advertisements. In no particular order, here are five of our favourite video advertisements of the year...
Hop House 13's brilliant mural ad had us hooked from the moment it started. A colourful splash of wall art animates in a seriously impressive use of stop-motion animation. It's a simple but hugely creative spot that brings out the playful side of the brand and successfully got us talking in the office. What more could you aim for from a campaign? Our next pick is an ad that proves sometimes going big is best. We absolutely love the high concept, post-apocalyptic alien invasion setting of this one, which is being used to sell... peanut butter? It's absurd, and that is absolutely why it works. JIF had a great year of playful campaigns, and this was the cherry on the top for us. One of the most effective pastiches we've seen in an ad for a while!
At this point it just wouldn't be right missing out any Old Spice commercial from a list of best ads. This year they continued their trend with a brilliant "Never let a friend lose his swagger" campaign. 'Next Episode' sees a man rescue his best friend from a night of lazy indulgence in a brilliantly over the top homage to action movie escapes. In typical Old Spice fashion, this spot is just so silly you have to love it.
This is probably one of the biggest surprises of the year. Who would have thought Sipsmith's first ad campaign would be one to the most wonderful pieces of marketing last year? With an amazing central character in Mr Swan, a truly brilliant stop-motion art style, and a dry sense of humour to suit - this ad just works on every level.
Our next pick is the charming and wonderfully animated short film, 'The Stained Club'. We love the art style of this one, and it really helps to bring out the emotional beats of the story. It brilliantly explores the effect of emotional abuse on children in a unique and moving way. So if you're a fan of great animation and poignant storytelling you'll definitely want to check this one out!So those are our favourites from 2019!
